L’articolo fa parte di un volume che offre al lettore la possibilità di accostare alla realtà dell’accompagnamento da diversi punti di vista e da differenti approcci disciplinari.
Questo articolo si sofferma a riflettere sull’accompagnamento dei giovani oggi nell’ottica del Sistema preventivo di san Giovanni Bosco.
L’articolo di Maria Marchi è una lettura del ruolo salvifico di Maria nell’economia divina, carica di un ricco potenziale di fecondi risvolti. In questo contributo teologico e pedagogico siamo sollecitati a scoprire il ruolo materno ed educativo di Maria nella crescita cristiforme di ogni credente. Un ruolo che per la FMA può essere assunto come modello e come presenza coadiuvante nell’adempimento della sua missione educativa fra le giovani.
Nella concezione educativa di Don Bosco il principio metodologico di base è stato il principio dell’amorevolezza: costruire fiducia, confidenza e amicizia attraverso un atteggiamento non facile di farsi prossimo ai giovani rispetto a tutta la loro vita. L’amorevolezza è quella bontà simpatica, quotidiana, affettiva ed effettiva nel desiderare il bene per la persona del giovane. Don Bosco raccomanda che gli educatori “come padri amorosi parlino, servano di guida ad ogni evenienza, diano consigli ed amorevolmente correggano”.
Written over several occasions between 1873 and 1875, the manuscript of the Memoirs of the Oratory remained unpublished by Don Bosco’s explicit will. However Fr John Bonetti drew on it abundantly for his History of the Oratory of St Francis de Sales, (which found its way into English under a different title Don Bosco’s Early Apostolate) published as a series in the Salesian Bulletin between 1879 and1886. And Fr John Baptist Lemoyne included it in its entirety in the first volumes of the Biographical Memoirs, adding in other information and anecdotes drawn from other witnesses. The first complete edition of the Memoirs appeared in 1946. The decision to put the book in the public domain in its entirety was motivated by the universal dimension that the Saint has taken on, as Eugene Ceria wrote in the presentation: “Today Don Bosco has become part of history and also been listed among the saints.”

In his 1877 booklet on pedagogy, Don Bosco highlights the advantages of the Preventive System and other reasons for which it should be preferred. At the same time he recognises that the “practical application” of the educational approach he is proposing implies “certain difficulties” for educators.

Per contribuire fin dall’inizio alla chiarezza del dialogo, si crede opportuno riassumere le conclusioni a cui si vuole arrivare, nello svolgimento del tema: 1. Don Bosco non è l’unico educatore o pedagogista del suo tempo, nè l’unico « grande » anche solo nel campo cattolico. 2. Don Bosco non è l’unico prete che nel suo tempo si sia interessato di ragazzi, di gioventù povera e abbandonata o no. 3. Tra essi Don Bosco è, indubbiamente, un «Grande»: soprattutto per avere approfondito intuitivamente e praticamente comuni esperienze educative, attuandole in forme ardite e organiche, e con vastità di visuale. Dominique est entré dans la vie de Don Bosco durant l’automne 1854. L’apôtre turinois avait alors trente-neuf ans. D’emblée, l’enfant et le prêtre s’étaient compris: Don Bosco put former Dominique selon l’idéal de sainteté qu’il portait en lui. Pendant vingt-huit mois, il veilla sur son âme. Toute son œuvre en bénéficia, car il semble bien que la température spirituelle de la «maison» du Valdocco monta en flèche de 1854 à 1857.
La fragilité naturelle de Dominique s’accrut malheureusement très vite et, le 9 mars 1857, il fut emporté par une maladie de poitrine, à quinze ans moins vingt-quatre jours.

L’activité de saint Jean Bosco (1815-1888), fut assurément multiple. Mais elle se concentra en majeure partie sur l’éducation de la jeunesse. Il a formé, en 47 années passées à son service, plusieurs générations d’adolescents et, de surcroît, des centaines de futurs maîtres qui se sont réclamés de ses conseils et de ses exemples. Pour connaître sa méthode pédagogique, c’est sur sa vie qu’il convient d’abord de se pencher.

While preparing pilgrimages and spiritual exercises in Annecy and the neighborhood, I discovered reliable sources among the German and Dutch Oblates of St Francis de Sales. As a consequence of keeping contact with various participants, they invited the undersigned to take part in the annual meetings of their Arbeitsgemeinschaft (“study group”) in Eichstätt, Germany.
The Salesians, who have been applying the Preventive System since the time of their Don Bosco, have understood it mostly as a method of education. However, when we re-read the Preventive System from the perspective of rights, we realize that it is a Child Rights friendly system. We see ingrained in it many of the Child Rights.
In the course of the exposition so far it often appeared that one of the doubtless objectives of assistance, consists in preventing evil, disorders, and especially what Don Bosco summarily calls “offending God.”
