This book satisfies a real need describing as it does the growth of Don Bosco’s work with historical accuracy and in pleasant style. Going back one hundred and fifty years, the Salesian story is one of continuous growth. There was no need therefore to divide it into different periods. Because Don Bosco’s childhood was the foundation of his achievement, it seems only natural to begin with his birth in 1815 and to conclude with the Salesian General Chapter in 1965. Franz Knobloch – “Lungo il Cauaboris. Storia di una missione” in “Salesianum”

Nel 1908, il secondo vescovo dell’Amazzonia, mons. Federico Costa, percorse l’intero Rio Negro fino a Cucui, e il Rio Uaupés fino a Jauareté su di una barca a remi. Trovò tutto il territorio in uno stato di rovina. Grande merito di questo vescovo è di aver sollecitato la venuta dei Salesiani.

Albert Druart – “Les origines des oeuvres salésiennes en Belgique (1891-1914)” in “Salesianum”

Le 15 mai 1891, Leon XIII publiait l ’encyclique Rerum Novarum, premier document fondamental de l ’Eglise sur la condition ouvrière. Quelques mois plus tard, le 8 décembre 1891, à la demande de l’évèque de Liège, V.-J. Doutreloux, les Salésiens de Don Bosco ouvraient leur première maison en Belgique. Il y a plus qu’une coincidence entre ces deux événements.

Francis Desramaut,Mario Midali – La Famiglia Salesiana. Lussemburgo 26-30 Agosto 1973

Il quinto colloquio sulla vita salesiana si è tenuto a Lussemburgo dal 26 al 30 agosto 1973. Fece seguito ad analoghe assemblee riunitesi a partire dal 1968 successivamente a Lione, Benediktbeuern (Baviera), Barcellona e Leggiuno (Varese). Per la prima volta vi hanno preso parte non solamente dei Salesiani, ma anche delle Figlie di Maria Ausiliatrice, delle Volontarie di Don Bosco e dei Cooperatori salesiani, con un totale di trentanove persone, tutte di riconosciuta competenza e appartenenti a diverse nazioni dell’Europa centrale e occidentale.
