The document that now reaches all confreres through this publication is subtitled “Post-Chapter reflection” and not “Chapter documents”, as has customarily been the case in the past. This is because the Chapter Assembly did not arrive at the point of final approval of the text by vote. Only a few Chapter deliberations, especially those of a legal nature, saw the light of day during the first four weeks of our work. The educational experience of Don Bosco inspires Salesian Higher Education in different ways. The first modality is present in the inspirations of the Salesian charism that accompanied the moment of the birth of Salesian Higher Education. Beyond history, we are dealing with subsequent ways of considering the Salesian educational style from a point of view of criteria, direction and applications. Salesian anthropology is summarized around the following criteria: Christianity and culturally stimulating citizenship; a pedagogy differentiated on between the basics and excellence leadership; the welcoming environment and, finally, the ideal of the educator as a formator – animator – teacher – companion. Starting from the criteria we will propose some possible processes applicable in the field of learning-teaching, accompaniment, planning and positioning within the Salesian Province.

Kristu Jyoti College, built and launched on its mission of theological formation of the Salesians in the whole of India, was envisioned and realized in a fast-changing post-colonial world which was throwing up daunting challenges for the Church and consecrated life in general and for the Salesian Congregation with its professed goal of catering to the young and the needy in particular and that at a time when newly independent India was seeking to find its place in the comity of nations.
