Questo articolo esamina il termine “salesiano” e la sua evoluzione di significato in due contesti distinti: quello di Don Bosco e quello di san Francesco di Sales.
Spiritualità è oggi la parola corrente per significare una dottrina di vita spirituale, un ordine cioè di principii sulla perfezione cristiana e un coordinamento di mezzi per acquistarla. Un tempo, invece dell’astratto, si preferiva in generale il concreto “ spirito “. Il primo termine sembrerebbe indicare prevalentemente un sistema, il secondo un metodo; ma nella pratica uno vale l’altro.

This article explores two traditions on Marriage from the New Testament to Francis de Sales. It shows that although the Doctor of love’s position that marriage is a vocation and sacramental way to fully live in Jesus is at odds with the council of Trent, which holds that religious life is the highest state, the Salesian theology of marriage is in fact robustly represented in a multifaceted Patristic Tradition.
