El presente trabajo tiene como propósito estudiar el papel o rol desempeñado por Don Rua, ya sea como Vicario de Don Bosco ya sea como su primer Sucesor, durante el desarrollo de la Obra salesiana en el Ecuador. Para este estudio hemos acudido de un modo especial al Epistolario de Don Rua, tomando como fuente principal el DVD ROM “Documenti di don Rua”, elaborado por el Comitato di Studi Storici Don Rua 2010, más las cartas originales de Don Rua que reposan en el Archivo Histórico Inspectorial del Ecuador y otras fuentes anexas relativas como “Lettere Circolari di Don Michele Rua ai Salesiani” y otras fuentes señaladas en la bibliografía.
