On June 23rd of last year, our Rector Major, Fr. Egidio Vigano, the 7th successor of Don Bosco, passed away and returned to God. His peaceful passing occurred at the Generalate, where he was attended by his brothers Frs. Angelo and Francesco, and surrounded by the prayers and affection of fellow confreres and sisters, as well as the esteem of many friends. The Holy Father personally conveyed words of comfort and his blessing to Fr. Vigano the day before his passing.

The funeral services served as a poignant tribute to Fr. Vigano, highlighting the gratitude of confreres and members of the Salesian Family for his unwavering guidance and leadership. They underscored his esteemed reputation in both civil and ecclesiastical circles, attributed to his theological acumen and collaborative spirit. Salesian Youth Ministry requires agreement of purpose and conviction on the part of all those involved in the planning and implementation of the Educative-Pastoral Community. In this  chapter we shall examine the community identity, how it works, the style of shared  responsibility and the way it is animated. The community is called to invest in the fi gure of the Salesian educator. In trying to discern and renew each activity and work, we look to the  Salesian style, the “oratory criterion” that connects us with the practical insights of the charism (our way of living together in communion) which have become part of our shared patrimony,  and are applicable to all contexts where Salesians operate. Importance is given to the way we  offer signs of the Gospel in everyday life, and the way we cultivate authentic relationships and 
communication.

Il volume è la sintesi di un processo che ha coinvolto le comunità educanti dell’Istituto delle Figlie di Maria Ausiliatrice nella ricerca delle risposte più adeguate ai bisogni delle giovani generazioni in difficoltà. La rilettura del Sistema preventivo che viene presentata parte dalla persona in difficoltà, cioè dalla pratica educativa che scaturisce dalla vita, tenendo tuttavia conto dei presupposti delle scienze umane, dei fondamenti pedagogici salesiani e delle implicanze pratiche caratteristiche dei diversi contesti socioculturali.

Il presente volume dal titolo raccoglie alcuni dei più significativi interventi proposti al Convegno per maestre delle novizie, organizzato dall’Istituto delle Figlie di Maria Ausiliatrice (Roma, 27 marzo-30 aprile 2007), al quale hanno partecipato 40 Maestre provenienti dai Paesi in cui vivono e operano le FMA.

Il focus di tutti i diversi contributi presenti nel volume è sul noviziato e sui modelli di formazione che lo strutturano come tappa di un processo formativo più ampio e come ‘luogo-spazio-temporale’ che consente l’attivazione di processi di crescita vocazionale.

To write this paper, I used a great part of the materials gathered by the deceased Fr. Alfonso Crevacore in the “Cimatti Museum” of Tokyo (CMT), situated in the Salesian Seminary of Chofu. It deals specially with the mail correspondence. The originals are found according to the container, or in the Vatican Archives, or in the Central Salesian Archives of Rome (ASC) or in the archive of the China Province in Hong Kong or in the said Cimatti Museum. Fr. Mario Rassiga’s manuscript “Breve cenno storico dell’opera salesiana in Cina” (vol. II, chapter XCIX, pp. 125-136), which reported the correspondence between the Holy See and the Superiors in Turin before the foundation of the Salesian work in Japan. One should note that the actual Japanese Province, up to I January 1928, was part of the Visitatoria of China, of which the superior was Fr. Ignazio Canazei.
