El primer capítulo tiene carácter inspirador. La pastoral viene considerada desde una perspectiva optimista de la realidad juvenil, abierta a todas las expectativas de los jóvenes, aún las ocultas e inconscientes. Solo habitando su mundo se pueden apreciar realmente sus posibilidades. Abandonando una pastoral encerrada en sí misma, abrimos la mirada con esperanza a la óptica del más débil y del que está en mayor riesgo.

Il primo capitolo ha carattere ispiratore. Oltre a dare alla pastorale una prospettiva positiva della realtà giovanile, la rende aperta a tutte le attese, anche nascoste ed inconsapevoli, dei giovani. Solo abitando il loro mondo se ne possono realmente apprezzare le potenzialità. Abbandonando una pastorale ripiegata su se stessa, apriamo lo sguardo con speranza, tenendo sempre presente chi è più debole e chi è più a rischio. I nuovi paradigmi culturali e le sfide dei vari contesti provocano attenzioni specifiche, e sfidano il senso stesso della pastorale e dell’essere Chiesa. In questo capitolo si vuole mettere in luce la motivazione che mosse Don Bosco e la Congregazione con lui e dopo di lui, nel suo impegno nei confronti dei giovani. Salesian Youth Ministry Department – Inhabiting the life and culture of today’s young people
The firs chapter is of an inspirational nature. As well as giving youth ministry a positive slant on the youth situation, it opens it up to all the young people’s expectations, even those that are hidden and unconscious. Only by inhabiting their world can we come to really appreciate its potential. We need to abandon any form of ministry that is turned in on itself, and open our gaze with hope, always keeping in mind young people who are weakest and most at risk. New cultural paradigms and the challenges thrown up by different contexts call for specific attention and challenge the very meaning of ministry and of being Church. In this chapter we would like to focus on the motivation that drove Don Bosco and the Congregation during and after his time in their commitment on behalf of young people.
