Da lungo tempo e da molte parti mi fu chiesto con grande insistenza di consacrare la nostra Pia Società al Sacro Cuore di Gesù, con atto solenne e perentorio. Specialmente insistettero in questo assunto le nostre Case di Noviziato e di Studentato, congiunte in lega santa, e la cara memoria di quell’indimenticabile nostro Confratello che fu Don Andrea Beltrami. Dopo un lungo ritardo, consigliatomi dalla prudenza, credo opportuno esaudire queste suppliche ora, che il secolo decimonono volge al termine, e si avanza, lieto di molte speranze, il secolo ventesimo.

Michael Mendl presents us with his essay on the dreams of Don Bosco. His study is a corrective for those who expect to find extensive prophecies of the future in Don Bosco’s words. Nevertheless the dreams are an important element in the life and spirituality of Don Bosco.

Michael Mendl – “New information on the salesians’coming to New York” in “Journal of Salesian studies”
Fr. Michael Mendl, in his research has discovered “a long missing letter” that states Don Bosco’s refusal to send Salesians to New York in 1848. This letter completes Michael Mendl ‘s article in the Journal on founding Salesian work in New York. (Vol. XI, No. I, Spring 2000).
Josephine Giorgi – “St. Luigi Versiglia and Bishop Walsh of Maryknoll” in “Journal of Salesian studies”
A different type of writing comes to us from Josephine Giorgi, the second cousin of St. Luigi Versiglia. Josephine lives in Springfield, Massachusetts. The excerpt from a biography of Bishop James Walsh of Maryknoll by Raymond Kerri son exemplifies the apostolic spirit of the two Salesian martyrs along with Bishop Walsh’s deep esteem for them.
