Massimo Marcocchi – At the roots of Don Bosco’s spirituality in «Don Bosco’s place in history»

Marco Marcocchi in his essay tries to shed light on the type of reality in which Don Bosco lived, worked and which religious figures influenced his spirituality and his way of working as an educator. We must not forget, however, that Don Bosco had his own original personality on a spiritual level.                                                                            Continue reading “Massimo Marcocchi – At the roots of Don Bosco’s spirituality in «Don Bosco’s place in history»”

Ramón Alberdi – Don Bosco and the Catholic associations in Spain in «Don Bosco’s place in history»

Don Bosco has established relationships with Catholic associations not only in Italy, but also abroad: in Spain and France. The author of this essay focuses in particular on his trip to Spain and on the visit to the Catholic Association of Barcelona.

Giuseppe Tuninetti – The conflict between Don Bosco and the Archbishop of Turin Lorenzo Gastaldi (1871-1883) in «Don Bosco’s place in history»

This paper outlines the reasons that led to the clash between Don Bosco and the Archbishop of Turin, Lorenzo Gastaldi, between 1871 and 1883.                                                                              Nel presente saggio vengono delineati i motivi che hanno portato allo scontro fra Don Bosco e l’arcivescovo di Torino, Lorenzo Gastaldi, fra il 1871 e il 1883.

Franco Molinari – Church and World in Don Bosco’s “Storia Ecclesiastica” in «Don Bosco’s place in history»

Don Bosco in his book “Ecclesiastical History” talks about the Church and the World and their bond, which over the centuries has been very tortuous. Unlike the “fundamentalist” conservatives, Don Bosco had a clear vision of the reality that surrounded him and this awareness was not due to his studies in the historical field, but to his ability to know how to read the present.

Juan Maria Laboa – Don Bosco’s experience and sense of the Church in «Don Bosco’s place in history»

Juan M. Laboa in his paper focuses mainly on Don Bosco’s image of the Church, the only place where the teachings of Jesus are preserved in their entirety. Don Bosco believed that this Church (and not the Protestant one) is the only one that can bring people closer to God and that instilling love and devotion to the Pope helps to counter religious sects and dissidents. In the end, in chapter 5 the author reserves a reflection on the relationship between Pope Pius I and Don Bosco.        Continue reading “Juan Maria Laboa – Don Bosco’s experience and sense of the Church in «Don Bosco’s place in history»”
