In these pages I would like to reflect on youth ministry with a special focus on family. I hope that, by the end of this reflection no one could say that most of the considerations made were on family ministry rather than on youth ministry.

Michele Rua – Letteres to the confreres of the english province (1887-1909).
Michael Rua (1837-1910) was a pupil, then the lifetime collaborator and finally, the first successor of St John Bosco as Rector Major of the Salesian Society (1888-1910). During his Rectorate the Salesians grew from 1030 members in 64 houses to 4420 confreres scattered across the globe. What is presented here is a collection of 238 letters that Don Rua sent to the confreres of the English Province in the twenty years of his Rectorate. Nel fasc. 2 del 1974 della rivista di pedagogia marxista Riforma della scuola si leggeva questa informazione: « In prima fila nel campo della ricerca pedagogica della Chiesa si collocano i salesiani del Pontificio Ateneo, promotori nella prima decade di gennaio, di un convegno di pedagogisti europei nel quadro di un processo di rinnovamento dell’attività del dicastero della Pastorale Gioventù ».

The Salesians, who have been applying the Preventive System since the time of their Don Bosco, have understood it mostly as a method of education. However, when we re-read the Preventive System from the perspective of rights, we realize that it is a Child Rights friendly system. We see ingrained in it many of the Child Rights.
