Don Bosco was a man who dreamed dreams. His dreams became reality and are still becoming reality. A lot of people think that he had a dream that is connected with the Korean province. The dream concerns the evangelization of Northeast Asia. If we look at the historical records that we have in our possession, the first Salesian confrere to set foot on Korean soil was the “Don Bosco of the East”, the Eastern Interpretation of Don Bosco’s Preventive System, the Venerable, Fr. Vincenzo Cimatti. ln 1934, he went to Manchuria to give a concert. At the same time he visited Korea, giving a concert in four cities. After that Fr. Cimatti himself as Provincial began to form missionaries in Japan to send to Korea. The first Salesians to enter Korea were the fruits of these endeavors. Enrico Danieli – “The initium of the salesian presence in Thailand” in “The beginning of the Salesian presence in east Asia”.

In the years 1924-25, the Salesian Congregation was preparing to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Salesian missions and to this purpose some qualified confreres were giving talks on Salesian Missions, in parishes, schools, to cooperators and alumni to animate them about the missionary work and to get their support. On the 25h of February 1924,Msgr. Dante Munerati, the Salesian Procurator in Rome, wrote a letter to inform the Superiors in Turin that he had received an unofficial note from His Excellency Cardinal Van Rossum, Prefect of the Congregation of Propaganda Fide, saying that he would like to entrust a new mission in the Kingdom of Siam to the Salesians. This contribution to the Salesian History Seminar on the implantation of the Salesian charism in the EAO region has great significance for the Vice-Province “Mary Help of Christians” of Vietnam, which will celebrate 50 years of the presence of the Daughters of Mary Help of Christians in 2011.

Leong Domingos – “The political situation in China in 1920-30 and its effects on salesians” in “The beginning of the Salesian presence in east Asia”.

This article would like to present a general view of the political situation of China in the period of 1920-30. Even though China has succeeded in establishing a republic through the revolution, she was still suffering from the civil wars and foreign powers invasion. It greatly affected the daily life of the people, and also, giving a great hindrance for Salesians, along with other missionaries, in their evangelization and educational endeavors. Leonardo Tullini – Tratti di spiritualità nelle lettere inviate a don Paolo Albera dai salesiani soldati durante la prima guerra mondiale

Obiettivo di questa ricerca e mettere a fuoco i tratti di spiritualità che caratterizzano l’identità salesiana in un preciso momento storico, quello della prima guerra mondiale, e in soggetti ben definiti, i salesiani italiani arruolati nell’esercito tra 1915 e 1918. Si intende cioè ricostruire il complesso di valori umani e spirituali che sorresse questi religiosi soldati nel dramma collettivo della prima guerra mondiale, per meglio capire i capisaldi dell’identità salesiana di quegli anni.

I materiali presi in esame non sono diari, memoriali o scritti di indole autobiografica. John Dickson – “War, racism and immobility the social impact of the early salesian work in Cape Town”, in “L’Opera Salesiana dal 1880 al 1922. Esperienze particolari in Europa, Africa, Asia”.

At the first official Conference of the Catholic Bishops and Mission Superiors of Southern Africa in December 1895 it was announced that Bishop Leonard had already agreed with the Salesians of Turin (Don Bosco) to open a house at Cape Town for the recovery of poor boys of an older age. Arthur Lenti – Politics of the “Our Father” and the holy father: Don Bosco’s mediation in Church-State affairs

Fr. Arthur J. Lenti tells the story of Don Bosco’ s efforts to mediate between the Holy See and the Italian government during the tense years of Italian unification. Of special importance was the appointment of bishops. After offering background on the historical events leading to the estrangement between the Church and state in Italy, the author goes to the sources in an effort to answer the question why someone so politically unimportant as Don Bosco, should become involved in a capacity of “negotiator.”

Pietro Ricaldone – Considerazioni sul primo Centenario della Casa-Madre – Avvertenze – Strenna per l’anno 1946

Nell’anno centenario della fondazione del primo Oratorio è bene mettere nella miglior luce il grande dono che la Vergine Immacolata fece alla gioventù guidando il suo fedele servo Don Bosco a questa terra benedetta, destinata ad essere centro e foco d’irradiazione delle Opere salesiane a salvezza delle anime.

Jarosław Wᶏsowicz – La lotta per la conquista della gioventù nella “Polonia Staliniana”: L’esempio di alcuni istituti Salesiani

Il 24 maggio 1946 l’Episcopato di Polonia convocato dal Primate August Hlond si riunì in una conferenza presso il Santuario claramontano di Cze˛stochowa e, discutendo i problemi sorti in seguito alla presa del potere in Polonia da parte dei comunisti dopo la seconda guerra mondiale, rilevò anche i pericoli che tale fatto comportava per la giovane generazione polacca.
