Quando il 3 gennaio 1973 il Rettor Maggiore Don Luigi Ricceri convocò nella Casa Generalizia un gruppo di esperti di storia salesiana per programmare una serie di pubblicazioni in vista del Centenario delle Missioni Salesiane, si espresse così: «Un invito straordinario per un motivo straordinario… In vista del centenario sentiamo il dovere di fare qualche cosa di serio che serva non solo per la nostra generazione, ma anche come base di studio per le generazioni future. È stato detto che noi salesiani facciamo la storia ma non la scriviamo. È necessario fare l’una e l’altra cosa».
Ne è risultato il presente volume, che presenta una numerosa schiera di i missionari quali protagonisti di questi cento anni di attività missionaria salesiana. La Escola de Artes e Oficios poteva vantare di offrire un tipo di insegnamento, con programmi e metodologie sperimentati, che a Macao erano unici nel loro genere. Era il modello delle scuole professionali promosso dalla Congregazione Salesiana, trapiantato, con opportuni adattamenti e con i limiti imposti dalle possibilità reali (non ultima quella del numero e della qualità del personale messo a disposizione dalla Congregazione), in un ambiente così diverso da quello in cui era nato. Vogliamo essere un piccolo ponte teso tra il nord (Europa) ed il sud (Africa), tra la civiltà occidentale e la civiltà arabo-islamica, tra cristiani e musulmani.
This experience started in Philippines in the religious group life of the young people in all educative settings. Its motivation and goals are forming good Christians and honest citizens leading them to make a life choice. Recent studies conducted in India have shown that both perceived social support and spirituality contribute significantly to increasing life satisfaction of Indian college students. While perceived social support is a major source of subjective well-being for adolescents, offering them physical and emotional comfort and protection from stressful events, spirituality enhances their purpose in life, interconnectedness with others, profound inner life and transcending of ordinary experiences. A different type of writing comes to us from Josephine Giorgi, the second cousin of St. Luigi Versiglia. Josephine lives in Springfield, Massachusetts. The excerpt from a biography of Bishop James Walsh of Maryknoll by Raymond Kerri son exemplifies the apostolic spirit of the two Salesian martyrs along with Bishop Walsh’s deep esteem for them.
In Part One of the present installment (Part Four overall), we shall discuss the last two dreams in a similar manner to the first article. Part Two (Five) will deal with the significance of the missionary dreams, with interpretative comments.
The theme of this reflection, entitled: “Encounter of the Salesian Charism: South Asian Context, is self-explanatory. Drawing out its implications, the topic can be articulated in three focal points, implied in the very title, that is, “Salesian charism,” “South Asia,” and finally, the issue of the “Encounter…”.
Nell’anno centenario della fondazione del primo Oratorio è bene mettere nella miglior luce il grande dono che la Vergine Immacolata fece alla gioventù guidando il suo fedele servo Don Bosco a questa terra benedetta, destinata ad essere centro e foco d’irradiazione delle Opere salesiane a salvezza delle anime.
