This evaluation focuses more on the content than on the methodology. The seminar helped to improve knowledge of the situation as far as content is concerne which was very interesting.
In recent years our Congregation of the Caritas Sisters of Miyazaki, especially the Province of Korea, experiences a fresh interest in the origins of our charism. The sisters talk about the primary importance of prayer and the secondary value of daily work.
On 6 February l922,Pius XI (1939) ascended the Papal throne: he would become known as a “Pope of the Missions” (as was his predecessor, Benedict XV). Two months later, on 24 April, Fr. Filippo Rinaldi ( 5 December 1931) was elected Rector Major: his ten years in office would be recalled for the great re-launching of the Salesian missionary movement. In questo secondo libro, Giovanni Bosco racconta la vita di Giuseppe Burzio a partire dal momento in cui vestì l’abito chiericale, fermandosi a prima che entrasse al noviziato di Pinerolo (affrontato poi nel libro III).
Il libro contiene cenni storici riguardanti la vita del chierico Luigi Comello, scritti da Giovanni Bosco, suo “collega”. Lo scritto era indirizzato ai seminaristi di Chieri, luogo in cui lo stesso Comollo visse, affinché potesse servire loro come modello.
Don Bosco, grande educatore cristiano dei giovani, volle la religione tra i fondamenti del suo sistema educativo. Nell’ambito della religione il Santo diede una grande importanza alla vita di pietà. La inculcò insistentemente con la parola e con gli scritti. Seppe soprattutto dare il suo convincente esempio.

And so the main object of our reflections will be the figure of Don Bosco, a figure we shall try to make contact with, not so much to understand his external actions which we all know about already, but rather to understand the conditions, the motivations, the spirit which led him to make specific choices, to work in a specific way, to write about particular matters, to reach a particular form of holiness which is specifically his own, different in some ways from that of other saints.

The road traveled by John Bosco, as child and teenager, in his quest for an education, proved to be a bumpy one, marked by frequent twists and turns and occasionally stalled by unforeseen roadblocks. But despite occasional disheartening setbacks, John’s high hopes in his pursuit of an education would prevail over disconcerting frustrations.
Thus the approval of the Salesian Constitutions in April 1874 was followed by a second and more bitterly fought phase of the conflict.

The reader may be surprised to learn that at the first canonical assembly of Salesians, Don Bosco was equating fidelity to our Society with the broad road of “Salesianity” mapped out in such a human and holy way by Saint Francis of Sales himself.
