Nel 1876, D. Giovanni Cagliero accettava di aprire il Collegio Pio a Villa Colon, nei pressi di Montevideo. A dirigere questo collegio don Bosco inviava il giovane sacerdote Luigi Lasagna, uomo di grandi vedute, intraprendente e che sapeva unire l’obbedienza cosciente e sofferta all’originalità delle idee e alla costanza nel battere sentieri nuovi. Il saggio affronta il tema della santità salesiana nella storia nell’ambito delle Figlie di Maria Ausiliatrice, in particolare soffermandosi su tre figure nate al tempo dell’Oratorio di Valdocco e della prima comunità di Mornese: suor Maria Domenica Mazzarello (1837-1881), suor Teresa Valsé Pantellini (1878-1907) e suor Maddalena Morano (1847-1908). Di queste si racconta brevemente la vita e l’opere nella comunità salesiana, fino a parlare della loro beatificazione e canonizzazione.

Nella ricerca storica, l’introduzione e conoscenza di don Bosco nell’ambiente tedesco porta la data dell’anno 1883, anno di pubblicazione di un’opera francese, tradotta in tedesco, sulla persona e le opere di don Bosco, da parte del medico dott. Charles D’Espiney. Il suo desiderio di promuovere l’unione dei Cooperatori salesiani lo spinse a scrivere un libretto con la narrazione di fatti riguardanti la vita di don Bosco. Il libretto capitò nelle mani del vescovo Dr. Johannes Laurent, che ne propose la traduzione in tedesco e scrisse una premessa datata “Pasqua 1882”.

The present paper, a textual elaboration of the power-point presented at the Batulao Seminar, tries to re-capture the salient moments in the history of the Daughters of Mary Help of Christians (FMA) in Timor (and Indonesia) from their arrival up to the present day. Our presence in this land is rather recent considering that we arrived in Timor only in 1988.

This article looks at the first thirty years of the presence and implantation of the Salesian charism on the soil of North-East India. The first group of six FMA missionaries disembarked in this region on 8 December 1923. During the span of time under consideration, there were eight foundations of which seven were in the North-East and one in West Bengal.

The first article of the constitution of the FMA expresses this characteristic of the institute as follows:
“Through the gift of the Holy Spiril and the direct intervention of Mary, St. John Bosco Founded our Institute as a response of salvation to the profound hopes of young girls. He endowed it with a spiritual heritage that had its inspiration in the charity of Christ the Good Shepherd, and imparted to it a strong missionary impulse”. (Const.I ).
